Andy and Emilia welcome, and are dazzled by, the lovely Sadia Harper. Together they discuss Emilia and Andy’s upcoming Minnesota adventure, all three versions of True Grit, the subtle tactics employed to brainwash children, the subjective nature of “musical genius,” and a whole slew of shitty ways to get high.

SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS
Before beginning to record this episode, Andy insisted on screening this video of a tremendously coked-up Billy Preston absolutely murdering his organ on stage. It is unreal.
Emilia mentions a story from a recent episode of This American Life presented by Starlee Kine. The episode presents several disturbing scenarios and statistics, which is pretty much where Ira Glass eats.
“Brain. On. Drugs.” was the theme of Ari Shaffir’s show This Is Not Happening on January 22nd, 2011. On stage that night, Bobcat Goldthwait mentioned that he has, in fact, been sober since the age of nineteen. That came as a shock the audience that night as well as everyone to whom Emilia repeated it. If you just look at his publicity photo on IMDb, it’s not hard to see why.
It would be wrong of us not to include a little more information about the Japanese art of Dorodango.
In the latter half of the episode, there are a litany of film titles mentioned. We’re including a list here in case you want to check any of them out.
Scott Walker: 30 Century Man
Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten
Sneakers
Airplane
Kentucky Fried Movie
Top Secret
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
Stranger Than Fiction
In Bruges
The King’s Speech
Blue Valentine
Generalissimo will, in fact, be at the Hemlock Tavern on February 2nd.
Sadia is charming, hilarious and deserves your attention. All of it.

She also writes about music for The Owl Mag.
The signed version of “Fuck You” is actually in American Sign Language, not French, but it doesn’t matter really. It’s incredibly fun to watch.

Inspired stuff, cool cats. That Billy Preston video was mind-blowing, too.
